He was a really sweet, funny and sincere person. I loved him very much, and I miss him deeply.
Let us savour every second of football this weekend in his memory.

can you believe that? the premier league is finally here!
tottenham are entering the season with a new manager, some new players and a new captain. the rest of the gang will have plenty of football stories for you to comment on in the next 36 or so hours before kickoff, but let’s start the hype-building right now.
tottenham hotspur begin their campaign on saturday at 5.30pm local time / 12.30pm et/ 9.30am pst. so get your beverages (adult or soft or caffeinated), your foods (wings or chips or sausage or pancakes) and your shirts ready for the season.
fitzie will be running it back again with his kyle walker #2 shirt from the 2016-17 season. there’s no topping that for me, even if i have a few others in my closet the spurple this year might be a contender, but i’ve said that before and I still wear the walker kit. i can’t believe it’s getting close to retro now.

football is a brilliant sport, and remarkable in its ability to bring us together. whether it’s watching games on the weekday or weekends, or sitting on the couch playing fifa (a video game your hoddler-in-chief is inept at playing).
maybe He lines up as liverpool’s 14-15 squad, and i choose spurs 14-15 (of course i do). and of course He always beats me because i keep two-footing His players. and then we’d laugh a lot after i’d go down to 9 men and still force my players to sprint the entire pitch. most times He’d win, sometimes we’d draw. i might’ve won once.
it’s these memories that we hold closest to us, These People who mean dearest to us, the people we love. it doesn’t really matter they hold the same scarf as us or wear rival colours or if He pronounces leicester as “lie-chester” (don’t hold it against Him).
sometimes the beauty of the game is the spirit of the game itself, and the people we get to experience it with. maybe it feels trite at the time, only to develop into a core memory we remember years later in our lives. and we talk about it on the phone one night and laugh, remembering the sweet moments of our lives, which i’ll carry with me wherever i go.
And We keep These People In Our Hearts, we Carry Them Wherever We Go (i carry it in my heart).
And That’s Beautiful.

we’re excited for this season. it’s been a whole five days since i last watched a football match (cardiff vs wrexham), and even longer since i saw the tottenham boys lace up their boots.
get hyped, come on you spurs,
And Enjoy Every Sandwich.

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to keep rolling down the path to the top seed in the American League as they open a three-game series against the Orioles in Baltimore on Friday.
The AL East rivals met in a four-game series last weekend at Tropicana Field, with the Orioles winning the first three to snap the Rays' nine-game winning streak.
The only game in that series that featured a final margin wider than one run had the same pitching matchup as tonight's game, with Freddy Peralta starting for the Rays against Baltimore's Trevor Rogers. The Orioles won that one 10-2 after blowing the game open against Tampa Bay's bullpen and will hope their bats can rediscover that groove Friday.

HOUSTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 18: Fernando Mendoza #15 of the Las Vegas Raiders in action during the joint practice with the Houston Texans at Houston Methodist Training Center on August 18, 2026 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Kenneth Richmond/Getty Images) GettyIt was first and 10 from the Houston 24-yard line, with eight minutes and 24 seconds left in the first quarter. The Las Vegas Raiders, helmed by their No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Fernando Mendoza, were putting together a strong opening drive, responding to the Texans offense marching down the field and punching the ball into the end zone.
Mendoza took the snap under center, completed a play-fake to rookie RB Mike Washington Jr., and by the time he got his head back around he was already feeling the pressure. The Texans dented Las Vegas’ offensive line, muddying the pocket and forcing Mendoza to step to his left.
With his first two reads covered, Mendoza felt the heat coming off his right side and tried to dump it down to Washington, who had checked up around the 20-yard line. But Texans rookie LB Wade Woodaz read it all the way, jumping the passing lane and out-muscling Washington for the ball before racing 80 yards down the sideline for a touchdown.
Las Vegas Raiders Express Confidence in Fernando Mendoza Despite Pick-Six

After the game, Raiders HC Klint Kubiak spoke to reporters and defended his quarterback.
“The response, that’s who he is,” Kubiak said on Mendoza’s performance after the pick-six. “I think defensively they covered the play pretty well, and [Woodaz] did a good job stepping in front of our check-down. I gotta go watch it, but the response is what we’ve come to expect from him.”
One of those reasons? Mendoza’s toughness and effort. After Woodaz intercepted the ball, Mendoza gave chase, running full-speed down the sideline in an attempt to catch up and make the play. Mendoza made a diving attempt on the tackle, but was unable to bring Woodaz down. Still, that kind of dedication on a play seemingly out of reach is one of the reasons why his coaches and teammates on the Raiders love him.
Mendoza finished eight of 15 for 86 yards and the one interception in one half of action. He was also sacked once for an 11-yard loss.
Raiders Know Fernando Mendoza Needs Game Experience and to Play Through Mistakes

This is why Mendoza is playing so much in the preseason. The Raiders signed QB Kirk Cousins in free agency to compete with Mendoza and give him time to learn from a veteran on the bench. Las Vegas hopes this will allow him to grow more comfortable without being thrown to the wolves on an undermanned team.
But it’s difficult to get better in the NFL if you don’t play. Even though Cousins is Las Vegas’ presumed Week 1 starter, Mendoza has gotten reps with the first-team offense in camp, including in joint practices. Giving him full halves to work in the preseason will only help him long-term.

Savinho joined Manchester City from French club Troyes in 2024 [Getty Images]Tottenham have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign winger Savinho for £75m, with a further £10m in potential add-ons.
Savinho, 22, will now have a medical before signing a long-term deal with Spurs.
The Brazilian's move to north London has been more than 12 months in the making, with Spurs failing in a bid to sign him last summer.
Savinho opted to remain at Etihad Stadium, but his game time was limited under Pep Guardiola last term when he made just seven Premier League starts.
Having spent a combined £185m on midfielders Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, Tottenham head coach Roberto de Zerbi next looked to strengthen his side's attack.
But Spurs are unlikely to end their spending here, with sources telling BBC Sport talks for Savinho's City team-mate Omar Marmoush are progressing positively.
The Egypt forward, a £59m signing from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2025, fell down the pecking order at City last season.
Spurs also remain interested in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, but it is unclear whether they could finance a deal for the Netherlands attacker as well as moves for Marmoush and Savinho.
Savinho's arrival will push Spurs' spending this summer past £300m, although they have recouped about £140m through the sales of Cristian Romero, Djed Spence and Luka Vuskovic.
Tottenham kick off their Premier League campaign at Brentford on Saturday (17:30 BST), while City host Bournemouth on Sunday (14:00 BST).
Photo by David Berding/Getty ImagesAnthony Edwards is being forced to pay $14K in child support among other things for a child he shares with his ex, Alexandria Descroches.
Anthony Edwards is no stranger to legal battles when it comes to his kids. The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar has four children with four different women, and already pays quite a bit in child support.
Edwards has recently been in court dealing with his ex, Alexandria Desroches’s demands for child support for their son, Amir.
The 25-year-old has been handed an order by the court that will see him pay a significant amount, and the court has also asked him to pay his ex’s legal fees, among other things.
Photo by Alika Jenner/Getty ImagesAnthony Edwards must pay $14K a month, pay for $2.6 million insurance policy, and Desroches’ legal feesEdwards is currently on a five-year, $244 million contract with the Timberwolves. This deal is until 2029, and the 4-time All-Star is almost guaranteed to get another massive contract after.
With the way NBA salaries are going up, Edwards is set to make much more than $500 million in salary alone during his career. And as per TMZ’s latest findings, some of that money will now go to his ex and child.
“NBA star Anthony Edwards is now on the hook for $14K a month in child support to his ex, Alexandria Descroches,” TMZ reported.
“According to court docs, the amount was determined based on the Minnesota Timberwolves guard’s monthly income of nearly $4.8 million.
“In addition to child support, the judge ordered Anthony to take out a life insurance policy worth around $2.6 million with Alexandria named as the primary beneficiary, and pay Alexandria’s legal fees totaling more than $21K.”
While it seems like a negligible amount compared to his vast earnings, Edwards is also already paying for his other children. However, what makes it even more interesting is that the star admitted he has never met his child.
“Alexandria and Anthony share a son named Amir, born in 2023. The docs note Anthony admitted under oath that he never met his son in person and is not seeking to have any parenting time with the kid.”
The situation seems messy, but nothing that is outside of what celebrities have to deal with from time to time. What he takes away from it is entirely dependent upon Edwards himself.

When hundreds of millions of euros and multiple world championships are on the line, how do you actually close the most highly anticipated contract in Formula 1 history? According to a wild new report from the Dutch publication De Telegraaf, you fire up Microsoft Office.
While the astronomical financial figures of Max Verstappen’s new Red Bull extension have dominated the paddock rumor mill, the behind-the-scenes mechanics of how the Milton Keynes squad convinced him to sign the August paperwork are just as fascinating. It required an executive-level corporate pitch, starring Red Bull Racing Team Principal Laurent Mekies.
According to the Dutch outlet, the roadmap to securing Verstappen’s signature began with a detailed PowerPoint presentation delivered by Mekies.
As the man steering the Red Bull ship, Mekies knew that a blank check wouldn’t be enough to secure a hyper-competitive, four-time World Champion. Verstappen doesn’t just want to be the highest-paid driver on the grid; he wants a guarantee that he will be fighting for titles at the end of the decade. With rival teams aggressively circling to poach him for the future, Mekies took a deeply analytical approach, bringing a slide deck to the negotiating table.
Red Bull Selling the VisionBecause the sweeping 2026 engine regulations are already in full effect and the Red Bull Ford Powertrains project is successfully navigating its inaugural season, Mekies wasn’t pitching an unknown vision for 2026. He was pitching sustained dominance for the next era.
Red Bull had to prove to Verstappen that their current engine success isn’t just a flash in the pan. Mekies’ PowerPoint presentation likely detailed the team’s long-term technical roadmap spanning from 2027 to 2030. This would have included exclusive data from the Red Bull Ford power units, upcoming aerodynamic wind tunnel correlation numbers, and aggressive long-term investments in the team’s infrastructure and factory facilities.
MILTON KEYNES, UNITED KINGDOM – AUGUST 20: Max Verstappen and Laurent Mekies photographed during a re-signing of contracts, extending his deal with the team until 2030. (Photo by Mark Thompson/Getty Images) // Getty Images / Red Bull Content Pool // SI202608190425 // Usage for editorial use only //By putting executive-level projections and raw data on a screen, Mekies treated Verstappen less like a racing driver and more like a CEO being briefed on a corporate merger. He proved that Red Bull’s foundations are firmly anchored for the rest of the decade.
Whatever was on those slides, it clearly worked.
Elena Rybakina (right) won the Australian Open in January [Getty Images]Elena Rybakina's latest attempt to replace Aryna Sabalenka as world number one came to an abrupt end as she retired injured from her Cincinnati Open quarter-final against Iga Swiatek.
The Kazakh second seed needed to reach the final to knock Sabalenka off the top of the rankings after the Belarusian suffered a surprise defeat by Sara Bejlek in the fourth round on Wednesday.
However, Rybakina managed just five games in her last-eight match against Poland's Swiatek before retiring with a left ankle injury.
Trailing 4-1, the Australian Open champion called for a medical timeout after pulling up at 40-40.
Following a consultation with the trainer, Rybakina played only one more point before quitting.
"Of course I feel not the greatest, I couldn't even push from the serve," Rybakina said.
"It's painful to walk. We'll know more tomorrow when we have the MRI. It's been bothering me for a long period of time, but felt like I had it under control.
"It was feeling OK before the match but unfortunately one wrong movement, one landing, and something happened."
Swiatek, who beat Rybakina in the Canadian Open final last week, will face American world number three Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals.
The second seed is bidding to become just the second woman since 2004 to successfully defend a Cincinnati title, after Serena Williams in 2014 and 2015.
"I hope Elena will be fine. The next tournament is the priority. I know this one is important as well. But US Open is US Open," Swiatek said.
The US Open, where Sabalenka is the two-time defending women's singles champion, begins on Sunday, 30 August.
"I hope she's going be ready for that. She's super close to being number one in the world," Swiatek added.
"It's a shame. I thought we were playing a good match, but health is a priority. I hope she's going to be OK."
'Chocolate with colours makes me happy'
Flavio Cobolli lost to Alexander Zverev in June's French Open final [Getty Images]In the men's event, chocolate proved to be the winning ingredient for Flavio Cobolli as he battled past home favourite Tommy Paul in a 2-6 6-3 6-4 comeback win.
The Italian appeared to be running low on energy in the second set, despite leading 5-2, when he asked for a tub of M&M's during a changeover.
It seemed to be the sugar rush Cobolli needed as he wrapped up the set and broke at 5-4 in the decider to reach his first Masters 1000 semi-final.
"I felt a little bit tired, and I needed some energy, some sugar, and I love M&M's," Cobolli said.
"Chocolate with colours makes me happy in the match."
The French Open runner-up will face Arthur Fils in the semis after the Frenchman needed just 64 minutes to beat Argentina's Thiago Agustin Tirante.
Fils, who returned from an eight-month injury lay-off in February, did not face a single break point as he became the first French player to reach three Masters 1000 semi-finals in a season since Guy Forget in 1991.
City’s last five meetings with BournemouthAhead of this weekend’s clash, we look back to our recent games against Bournemouth.
Analysing Bournemouth ahead of this weekend’s Premier League openerCity enjoy a spectacular record against the Cherries in the Premier League, winning 16 of our 18 meetings in the top-flight.
We have won all nine of our Premier League home games against them by an aggregate score of 34-6.
BUY YOUR 2026/27 HOME KIT HERE
In that time we’ve averaged 3.8 goals per game; our highest average against any opponent on home soil.
We’ve also played each other once in each of the domestic cups, with City victorious on both occasions.
The two sides meet again this Sunday in the first Premier League game of the season, with a 14:00 (UK) kick-off at the Etihad Stadium.
Here’s what happened the last few times we came together…
Bournemouth 1-1 City, 19 May 2026The only Premier League draw between the sides was the last time we met.
And it was a fateful night, with the dropped points guaranteeing Arsenal would win last season’s Premier League.
City v Bournemouth: FPL Gameweek 1 Scout ReportJunior Kroupi put the home side ahead as they chased a win to keep alive their outside chance of Champions League qualification before Erling Haaland got a leveller with around 90 seconds remaining.
It wasn’t enough though on a frustrating night that proved to be Pep Guardiola’s final away game in charge.
City 3-1 Bournemouth, 2 November 2025Erling Haaland was at his clinical best in this one with a brace that was backed up by Nico O’Reilly.
Haaland’s opener came as he was set free into the Bournemouth half with a smart Rayan Cherki header. He ran straight at goal and fired under Djordje Petrovic.
One moment in time: Doku rips up the record books!Tyler Adams got a leveller for the visitors soon after but Haaland put us back ahead soon after.
O’Reilly sealed the points in the second half by driving into the box and hitting the ball low and hard into the far corner.
City 3-1 Bournemouth, 20 May 2025Our final home game of 2024/25 is most remembered for Kevin De Bruyne’s goodbye after a dazzling decade at City.
There was so much emotion in the Etihad Stadium but first of all it was down to business, with City still not certain of Champions League qualification.
Our opener on the evening was spectacular, with Omar Marmoush stepping up to hit it from 30 yards into the top corner. The strike even earned our Goal of the Season award.
How can I watch City v Bournemouth on TV?Somehow De Bruyne missed perhaps the easiest chance of his City career soon after but it mattered little in the end, with Bernardo Silva squeezing home and Nico curling in from outside the area.
Bournemouth got a consolation through Daniel Jebbison before the focus turned entirely to De Bruyne.
Bournemouth 1-2 City, 30 March 2025A game that proved crucial in Nico O’Reilly’s emergence as one of the game’s best left-backs.
City were 1-0 down at the break after an Erling Haaland missed penalty before Evanilson put the home side up by forcing the ball over the line.
O’Reilly came on for the second half and was a bundle of energy immediately. One of his lung busting runs down the left ended with a pass across goal for Haaland to slide home.
He then cut inside and played a reverse pass for Omar Marmoush to squeeze a shot beneath Kepa Arrizabalaga and ensure safe passage into the FA Cup semi-finals.
Bournemouth 2-1 City, 2 November 2024Our only Premier League defeat to Bournemouth came at the start of the dreaded run in the autumn and winter of 2024/25.
Our man Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring for his former side, turning and shooting from less than 10 yards out to beat Ederson.
Evanilson got the second, racing in behind to latch on to Milos Kerkez’s cross before Josko Gvardiol gave us some hope with a towering header having ventured forward from left-back.
It wasn’t enough though and we were consigned to our first Premier League loss of the season.
Premier League 2026/27 home tickets now on saleGeneral admission tickets for Manchester City’s home 2026/27 Premier League fixtures are now on sale to Premium, Matchday and Junior Members.
Season Ticket Members, meanwhile, are now also able to purchase additional tickets for selected games.

It promises to be another thrilling campaign for the Blues as we enter a new era under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, who takes over from Pep Guardiola in the hotseat.

‘[Fernando] Mendoza Has Some Philip Rivers in His Throwing Motion’ -- Former Packers QB Delivers Big, Big Endorsement of Raiders RookieAfter seeing Fernando Mendoza in preseason action, one former NFL player has made a bold comparison between the Raiders quarterback and an NFL icon.
The ex-Indiana star was not flawless in the Raiders’ first two preseason games, but he did enough to remind Kurt Benkert of Philip Rivers.
Fernando Mendoza Draws High Praise From Former NFL QuarterbackMendoza started the second preseason game against the Houston Texans on Thursday. Playing the entire first half against a stingy Texans defense, Mendoza completed 8 of 15 passes for 86 yards and threw a costly pick-six early on, missing a linebacker lurking underneath.
He settled down after a pep talk from Maxx Crosby, moving the offense on a couple of drives before halftime, when Las Vegas trailed 20-3. It wasn’t nearly as sharp as his first preseason outing against Arizona, where he went 10-of-16 for 97 yards and a touchdown.
Rough patches aside, Benkert clearly likes what he sees from the No. 1 overall pick, enough to make a lofty comparison: “Mendoza has some Philip Rivers in his throwing motion.”
That’s no small compliment. Rivers played 18 seasons in the NFL, spending most of his career with the Chargers, and ranks sixth all-time in passing yards and touchdowns. He’s also commonly viewed as one of the greatest quarterbacks never to reach a Super Bowl.
START PREPARING:PFN’s Free Fantasy Draft Simulator
Benkert has been a longtime fan of Mendoza, though his praise hasn’t always come without conditions. Back in January, before the draft, Benkert offered a much more detailed breakdown of Mendoza’s game.
He called him “an operator,” someone efficient and accurate who can extend plays with his legs “just enough” to move the chains. But he also made it clear he didn’t think Mendoza alone could turn around a Raiders team competing in a loaded AFC West.
Benkert compared him to a mix of Sam Darnold and Jared Goff at the time, adding that in the right situation, Mendoza could develop into “a great point guard-type of player,” maybe even something close to Drew Brees if everything breaks right.
BE THE GM OF YOUR FAVORITE TEAM:PFN’s Free NFL Mock Draft Simulator
Still, he argued the value of the top overall pick was better spent on a bigger athletic upside, or even traded away entirely, rather than banking on a rookie quarterback to fix a roster that needs more immediate help.
For now, Mendoza isn’t being handed the keys to the franchise. Kirk Cousins is expected to start ahead of him this season after signing with Las Vegas following a rocky 2025 campaign in Atlanta, where he threw for just 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, posting a 47.6 QBR.
The NFL veteran ranked 24th out of 38 quarterbacks in Pro Football Network’s Quarterback Impact Ratings, a middling mark but still well ahead of the man he’s replacing in the starting lineup conversation.
Geno Smith, who played 15 games for the Raiders last season, finished 35th out of 38 in that same PFN metric, completing 67.4 percent of his passes for 3,025 yards with 19 touchdowns against 17 interceptions while absorbing 55 sacks.
